Mississippi - Kaskaskia Valley Water Pollution Control Operators Association
- Nick Mahlandt announces his retirement
Nick Mahlandt, of the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency - Collinsville Office, and longtime MIS-KA member, has announced
that he is retiring as of January 1, 2009. Nick spent 38 years fighting the good fight, and now it's time to get serious about his golf
game.
Congratulations to Nick from all of us.
It is with a sad heart that I am announcing the death of Robert J. Miller at around 3:00 pm on Thursday February 19, 2009. Bob began
working at the Environmental Resources Training Center at SIUE on November 14, 1983. During his tenure he served and mastered
many roles, including laboratory manager, plant operator, and instructor of laboratory and water treatment technology. He
unselfishly shared his vast knowledge of water treatment techniques with his students at ERTC and throughout the state. Bob was
a respected member of the water treatment community and he will be missed.
A memorial service is scheduled to be held on Tuesday February 24th at 1:00 pm at Mark's Mortuary, 633 E. Lorena Ave., Wood
River, Illinois.

AT THE BUNKER HILL WATER OPERATORS MEETING, I WAS TALKING TO DON ANDERSON. HE INFORMED ME OF THE EFFORTS OF AN
ECOLOGY CLASS AT PONTIAC HIGH SCHOOL, IN PONTIAC IL, TO STOP PEOPLE FROM FLUSHING UNUSED PRESCRIPTION DRUGS DOWN
THE TOILET. THE ACRONYM IS P2D2 (Prescription Pill and Drug Disposal Program
Network ) AND THEIR WEBSITE ADDRESS IS http://www.p2d2program.org/ . THIS SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING THAT WE, AS AN
ORGANIZATION, COULD GET BEHIND AND GET OUR LOCAL SCHOOLS INVOLVED WITH. IN A NUTSHELL, PEOPLE DROP OFF THEIR
EXPIRED PRESCRIPTIONS AT THEIR LOCAL PHARMACY DROP BOX, AND THE COPS PICK THEM UP AND TAKE THEM TO A POWER PLANT
FOR INCINERATION. I'VE EMAILED THE INSTRUCTOR IN CHARGE, AND WILL PASS ALONG ANY INFORMATION THAT HE SENDS ME.
*UPDATE: I TALKED TO THE INSTRUCTOR, AND HE SAYS THAT IT'S NOT GOING TO BE TOO DIFFICULT - ANYWAY HE'LL BE AT IAWPCO IN
APRIL AND I'LL GET ALL THE INFO THEN, AND PASS IT ALONG.

I'VE BEEN WORKING ON THIS ONE FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS... WHAT DO YOU THINK? ANYONE ELSE HAVE ANY IDEAS? WE COULD DO
SHIRTS, OR HATS... LET ME KNOW
- NOTICE OF MEETING DATE CHANGE
I'VE BEEN INFORMED BY ILLINOIS ELECTRIC THAT THEY NEED TO CHANGE THE MAY MEETING DATE TO THE EVENING
OF THE 21st , DUE TO THE FACT THAT CHAD AND DON WILL BE OUT OF THE STATE ON THE 15th. I HOPE THAT THIS
DOESN'T INCONVENIENCE ANYONE. THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT JAY IS STILL COOKING!!!
